Welcome to the King's Lock Inn! We are a friendly free-house pub on the Trent & Mersey Canal in Middlewich, Cheshire. We take pride in our beers and are in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2019; TripAdvisor users rank us as one of the top pubs in Cheshire.

Opening hours:10am to 11pm (MonFri-Sat), noon-11pm (Sunday)

Over the winter (until early March-ish) we will only be opening Friday-Sunday but will have a full service on those days and lots of music etc

“Best Pub in Middlewich. This is a small and friendly pub. There are a lot of pubs to choose from in Middlewich, but this is our favourite, especially after a walk along the canal”

Darrelle B, TripAdvisor

Most Fridays we have some kind of live music - see Facebook for details.

*First* Tuesday of the month from 9pm-ish - Open Mic Night with a free pint for performers and free snacks for all. Amazing musicians travel miles to come to this night, it's always a good one. See our Facebook page for videos of previous nights (and to check that it's on - the date has been known to change for reasons outside our control, but it will almost always be the first Tuesday from now on).

13-16 June 2019 - Folk And Boat (FAB) Festival. The biggest event in the year, we have 40+ acts on over the weekend and a beer festival.

“the quite gorgeous King's Lock...a pub packed with charm...A tiny gem”

You can find the King's Lock on the Sandbach road on the south side of Middlewich - our address is 1 Booth Lane, Middlewich CW10 0JJ and our satnav coordinates are 53.187 -2.4406 or 53°11'13"N 2°26'26"W.

Two bus routes run past our door - the 42 bus goes hourly to Crewe and to Congleton via Holmes Chapel, both until 18:29. The 37 bus runs to Crewe and Northwich (via Sandbach and Winsford) during the day, but only between Sandbach Common and Winsford Guildhall in the evenings. At least that lets you get to Sandbach station (Crewe-Manchester line) and Winsford station (Crewe-Liverpool line), the last bus to Sandbach is 22:48 and to Winsford is 23:19. Do check those times on the bus company websites - they may be slightly different on Saturdays and buses don't normally run on Sundays.

Folk with boats can find us at lock 71 on the Trent & Mersey canal, a few yards south of the junction with the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union (aka the Wardle Canal). Let our friends at the King's Lock Chandlery attend to your boat, whilst the crew refuel next door! There's visitor moorings just south of the lock, and also a short distance along the Middlewich Branch. Please note that the March 2018 breach has been fixed and the Middlewich Branch is now open! Plenty of walks are possible along the towpaths of the two canals, and well-behaved dogs are most welcome in the pub - please ask us for walking directions.

The best way to contact us is to just give us a call on 01606 836 894. Please note we're only a little pub and we don't have very many tables inside for sit-down meals. It's not so bad at lunchtime and when the weather is good enough to use the outside tables, but we advise booking if you want to eat in the evenings and/or you're coming from a distance. If we're full on a particular night then you might want to try our sister pub, the Red Lion, which is only 10 minutes away on the big roundabout in Winsford, or at the southern end of the Weaver Navigation if you're coming by boat. They have more room, and share our chefs although their focus is more on live music, they are the current Northwest Entertainment Pub of the Year. Their phone number is 01606 869 156.
